Julie's storyAvon Pink Pamper Party Organiser
“My sister Sarah was diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2009. It was such a shock. The lump she had was actually harmless, but the mammogram and biopsy detected a cancerous tumour further inside her breast. She was only 44 and as routine screening isn't done until you are 50, I suppose you could say she's been pretty lucky.
We hosted an Avon Pink Pamper Party to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer's pioneering work. I asked local businesses to donate their services and our friends were just amazing. We had cupcakes, a chocolate fountain, silly games and a fabulous raffle with prizes including a massage, reflexology, a cut and blow dry, dinner for two, even a session in a floatation tank!
The day was brilliant. I can't believe so many people came to support us. We even had one very brave man enter the House of Pink! We raised £1,611 – far more than we expected. It was hard work, fun and at times very emotional, but so worth it! We will definitely do it again.”
